Disclaimer

Effective Date: September 3, 2025

Look, I want to be completely honest about what Flavorlo is and isn’t. This disclaimer covers the important stuff about using our heritage baking content safely and responsibly.

General Information Purpose

What FlavorLo Provides: Flavorlo shares educational content about traditional baking techniques, family recipes, and heritage food traditions. Everything I publish is based on research, personal experience, and extensive recipe testing, but it’s educational information – not professional culinary instruction.

What We’re Not:

  • A professional culinary school or certification program
  • Nutritionists or dietitians providing medical advice
  • Food safety inspectors or commercial kitchen consultants
  • Cultural anthropologists or academic food historians (though I work with them!)

Heritage Baking Specific Disclaimers

Traditional Recipe Variations: Traditional recipes often have multiple “correct” versions depending on family, region, and generation. The versions I share are documented interpretations based on research and testing, but they may differ from your family’s version – and that’s perfectly normal!

Technique Learning Curve: Heritage baking techniques often require practice and intuition that can’t be fully captured in written instructions. Don’t get discouraged if your first attempts don’t match the photos – even I burned pralines seven times before getting them right.

Ingredient Authenticity: Some traditional ingredients may be difficult to find or have changed over time. I suggest modern substitutions when possible, but these may alter the final product’s taste or texture.

Cultural Accuracy: While I research extensively and work with tradition keepers, I acknowledge that as one person, I can’t capture every regional variation or family tradition. If you notice inaccuracies, please let me know at Contact@flavorlo.com.

Food Safety Disclaimers

Your Kitchen, Your Responsibility:

  • Follow basic food safety practices in your kitchen
  • Use fresh, quality ingredients from reputable sources
  • Pay attention to temperature, storage, and handling guidelines
  • Trust your senses – if something looks, smells, or tastes wrong, don’t use it

Recipe Testing Environment: All recipes are tested in residential kitchens under normal home conditions. Your results may vary based on:

  • Equipment differences (oven calibration, mixer power, pan materials)
  • Environmental factors (humidity, altitude, water quality)
  • Ingredient variations (brand differences, seasonal changes)
  • Individual skill level and technique

Food Allergies & Sensitivities:

  • Many heritage recipes contain common allergens (dairy, eggs, nuts, gluten)
  • Cross-contamination can occur in home kitchens
  • I note major allergens when possible, but you’re responsible for checking all ingredients
  • Consult healthcare providers for severe allergies or dietary restrictions

Preservation & Storage: Traditional preservation methods may not meet modern food safety standards. When I share historical preservation techniques, I also include updated safety guidelines for contemporary use.

No Professional Relationship

Educational Content Only: Participating in FlavorLo content, workshops, or community discussions doesn’t create a professional culinary instructor-student relationship. I’m sharing knowledge and techniques, but you’re responsible for how you apply them.

Individual Responsibility:

  • Practice kitchen safety appropriate to your skill level
  • Choose recipes appropriate for your experience and equipment
  • Seek professional instruction for advanced techniques if needed
  • Make your own decisions about ingredient substitutions and modifications

Results Not Guaranteed

Realistic Expectations: Heritage baking involves traditional techniques that can be challenging to master. While I test every recipe extensively, I can’t guarantee:

  • Perfect results on your first attempt
  • Identical appearance to photos
  • Success with ingredient substitutions
  • Compatibility with all dietary restrictions

Learning Process: Traditional baking is as much art as science. Expect a learning curve, and don’t be discouraged by initial failures – they’re part of the process!
